The Cancer Care Initiative – Nuggets coach George Karl believes fighting cancer should be a team effort that goes beyond traditional treatment methods. That’s why he supports the Cancer Care Initiative at Swedish Medical Center in Denver. In addition to radiation, chemotherapy and surgical treatments, the Cancer Care Initiative educates cancer patients about the importance of nutrition and the benefits of massage therapy, acupuncture, fitness and pain management programs. Many non-traditional treatments are not covered by standard health insurance policies, but the Cancer Care Initiative is trying to change that by breaking new ground in patient education and navigation.
